Import/Export Can be a Lucrative Business

There are all kinds of ways to get into business. A lot of people import and/or export goods because they see the value of it. Some of them bring goods in cheaply from other countries, and then they sell them on their website or an online auction site. Other people make inexpensive goods and export them to other countries where people purchase them, but that’s a more difficult business to get into and it requires a lot of work that many people just don’t want to put in. If you’re going to export, it’s better to be in a country where you can make things very cheaply and send them to a country that pays (and charges) significantly more for them. If you’re going to import, getting things from countries where items are made very cheaply is key, because they can be purchased for very little money when compared to what you’d pay for goods from your own country.

It’s a delicate balancing act either way you go, but you can make a lot of money if you do it correctly. For people who aren’t experienced in it, starting small is generally a good choice. You won’t have to worry about large orders that you’ll need a place to store, and you won’t get overwhelmed. If you’re not sure if the business is for you, you can also drop ship, where a person places an order from you, and you send that order to the company that actually has the merchandise. That company ships it to the customer, and you get a percentage of the sale. There’s no overhead that way, and you don’t have to touch the actual merchandise.
